As you know, Dr. Mary Hood, the Regional Coordinator for the Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa passed away this past April. During her life, she was a strong supporter of community college students and especially those who are members of Phi Theta Kappa. I believe a goal she had was to help students be the best that they can be.
In her memory, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society with headquarters in Jackson Mississippi established the Mary Hood Leaders of Promise Scholarship. This fund will provide scholarships to Phi Theta Kappa members in Texas who are still attending the community college. In some cases, a scholarship like this could be the difference between a student continuing their education and dropping out because they do not have the funds for tuition.
The Texas Region Alumni Association of Phi Theta Kappa has been challenged to raise $5000 for this fund. If this amount can be raised by the annual Texas Regional Conference being held March 8 – 11, 2012, an anonymous donor will donate an additional $5000 to the fund. However, we cannot do this alone, we are asking for your help. Please consider making a donation in memory of Dr. Mary Hood to this challenge. We ask that you send donations to the following address:
Texas Region Alumni Association C/O Kenneth Ruemke 18303 Campbellford Dr. Tomball, TX 77377
Please make checks out to Texas Region Alumni Association and on the memo line indicate Mary Hood Leaders of Promise Scholarship.
By working together we can raise funds that will help student succeed for years to come. If you have already made a donation to the Mary Hood Leaders of Promise fund, we thank you for your generosity.
Thank you. Kenneth Ruemke Advisor - Texas Region Alumni Association |
